About

Our Mission:

Our vision is for a world where everyone has a greater understanding of the causes of cancer and the individual’s ability to prevent cancer. We wish to do this by facilitating research aimed at addressing the high incidence of cancer in Scotland, and the poor outcomes in patients who develop the disease.

About Us:

The Scottish Cancer Foundation was founded by two dedicated Cancer Researchers: Professor Sir Patrick Forrest and Professor John Evans CBE, in 1997. We are currently led by a Board of internationally renowned experts, based in Scotland. This enables us to work collaboratively across institutions to foster the existing talent in Scotland; developing a new generation of experts in the field of cancer prevention. The Foundation also represents a significant resource for Scotland that would be in an excellent position to review relevant applications for PhD projects from individuals and host institutions.
The Scottish Cancer Foundation is the only charity in Scotland which focuses solely on cancer prevention. The Board of the Foundation has considerable expertise in cancer prevention, and are world-renowned experts in their respective fields. It is our shared vision that we raise awareness of, and support research that will have an impact on cancer prevention. Cancer is one of the major causes of premature death in Scotland. Given the complexities of cancer prevention, its relative invisibility, and lack of emotional effect it follows that funding for cancer prevention activities is difficult to obtain.
